The Ferry to Vancouver Island

There is a large island located on the west coast of Canada, in the province of British Columbia.  The island is the size of a small country (32,134 km2/12,407 sq mi), so does not necessarily give the “island feel” one might expect!

The island is called Vancouver Island.  But the city known as Vancouver is not located here! I know…it gets confusing. Continue reading


Craigdarroch Castle

One of the landmark tourist attractions in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada is the Craigdarroch Castle [pronounced “Craig Derek”].

It is located in the beautiful Rockland neighborhood of Victoria.

Built in the 1890s by the wealthy coal baron, Robert Dunsmuir and his wife Joan, the castle has 39 rooms and is over 20,000 square feet (1,900 m2 ).

Today it is owned by the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society and is open to the public as a National Historic Cite of Canada. Continue reading

Sidney Summer Market

The town of Sidney is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, on the Saanich Peninsula, just a 20 minute drive from downtown Victoria.

During the summer months of June to August, Sidney is host to a very popular street market:

On Thursday evenings from 5:30 pm until 9:30 pm the main street of Beacon Avenue is transformed into a summer market filled with 200 various vendors; local merchants, fresh produce, arts & crafts, great food, live music & entertainment.
